The City of Goleta is pleased to announce that it will be distributing 10,000+ free at-home COVID-19 tests to Goleta community members this Saturday, February 5th at the West Wind Drive-In Theatre (907 S Kellogg Ave). This Point of Distribution (POD) will be a drive thru that is open from 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., or until supplies last. Bicycles and scooters are also welcome, but for safety reasons, walk-ups will not be allowed. Community members can receive up to six at-home tests per household, first-come, first-served. Please use Kellogg Avenue to access the POD.

The City received the COVID-19 test kits from the Santa Barbara County Public Health Department and our City staff and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members will be handing out the kits to anyone who comes by. Please wear a face covering when coming to pick up your test kits.

Goleta is thankful to the West Wind Drive-In for providing the space, and also thanks the Food Bank of Santa Barbara County for assisting with logistics.

Free at-home test kits can also be ordered online at https://covidtests.gov/.

Since I am sure this event will run out, friendly reminder that you can be reimbursed by your insurance for up to 8 tests per month per person! Claim forms are online on your health insurance website and it is super basic to fill out.

It is an outdoor event and a bike or scooter could get just as close to workers as a person on foot could. My guess is it's a queuing issue. Bikes and scooters are street legal and can "stand in line" on the road with the cars. Even though it's splitting hairs, it's a liability to have walking people in the same line. They probably don't want to deal with the logistics of a second line/first come first served since they will definitely run out before the event is over.

They did, or are, to organizations that further distribute, rather than, for instance, handing them all out at Earl Warren showgrounds.

Public Health Dept. press release Jan. 21
The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department has requested over 200,000 at-home COVID-19 antigen test kits from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, a federal healthcare partner.
As of Friday, nearly 57,000 test kits have been delivered and will be distributed via community partners countywide. The remaining kits are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
Approximately 35 community partners, including those serving populations at greatest risk from adverse outcomes related to COVID-19 have been allocated test kits. Partners include community-based organizations, cities, agricultural and public housing providers, service providers for persons experiencing homelessness, and more.
