The dog statue on Garden Street is all dressed up for the Fiesta holiday.

For most holidays and occassions, the residents of 2010 Garden Street dress up the dog statue outside their home.

Now, who knows the actual history behind this dog statue?

Interesting, and wonderful, how the tradition of dressing the dog for holidays is carried on by a succession of the home's owners. I would guess maybe it's written into the sales contract. "Living in a fish bowl"? I've driven by 100s of times and never seen hoards of people in the vicinity, or even any extra traffic.

And I read that this statue is not a one-off but that there were more made, using that same mold and variations thereof. Some copies have slightly different stance, etc. You couldn't pay me to live in that house. All that traffic. Who wants a multimillion dollar home where every time you step out your front door it's like you're living in a fishbowl?

I had been told long long ago that the statue was in honor of a dog that had pulled members of the family out of a burning home, saving their lives. I'm not sure if this is the truth, or just a Santa Barbara urban legend, but I always think fondly of the loyalty and love that we are shown by our canine companions when I pass by the statue and remember the story.
