Will someone identify these mushroom and confirm whether they are edible or not. I believe they are shaggy caps. Cap is almost three inches across, stem 5-6 inches. Gills are white.

Fungi I.D.

Thank you, Dr. Bob for participating here. I've learned so much from you many years ago, the result of which includes growing Lepiota rachodes (I like the old name) and Lepista nuda in my forested backyard. Looking forward to the rains! (They don't seem to like tap water all that much ;-(

They certainly are attractive. I would never eat a mushroom without having an expert ID it in person. Actually, some years ago here in SB an expert died from eating the wrong one. Better to stick to the store for mushrooms. Dr. Bob C. has given perfect advice.

Bob C, here. These are not shaggy manes. Do not eat them. Could be Chlorophyllum molybdites, "green-spored parasol", a seriously toxic mushroom. Could also be Chlorophyllum brunneum (old name Lepiota rachodes), which is considered edible for most people but it's very difficult to tell apart from C. molybdites. Leave this one alone, not worth the chance of getting so sick you'll require medical care.
