Fundraiser for Local Couple Injured in Las Vegas Shooting

By Edhat Staff

Killer B Fitness is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday to raise money for a Santa Barbara couple who were injured during the Las Vegas shooting last month.

Lara and Brian Mack attended the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 1st when a gunman opened fire on the crowd, leaving 58 people dead and 546 injured. A bullet grazed Lara’s head causing a scalp injury while Brian sustained more extensive injuries and abdominal trauma.

They were able to get to the hospital quickly in Nevada where Brian underwent three surgeries. He was then transferred to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital where he’s still undergoing treatment.

Killer B Fitness, where Lara is a long time member and volunteer, will be hosting a fundraiser to help with the family’s medical costs on Saturday, November 11, at their Goleta location on 191 S. Turnpike Road. From 10:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., light refreshments will be provided with all classes dedicated to the Mack family. Donations will also be accepted at the event, as well as items for a silent auction.

“Though they are some of the strongest people we know, they are still fighting through injuries sustained during the shooting. This is our chance to join together as a community to show that we do not and will not stand for the violence perpetrated by this horrific crime,” the Killer B Fitness team wrote in an email.

Family friends have also created a GoFundMe account that has raised nearly $13,000 as of Thursday afternoon. Donations are accepted through gofundme.com.

Killer B Fitness is a small group class training studio with two locations, one in Goleta and another on State Street in downtown Santa Barbara.
