An online fundraising campaign has been created for the family of a teenager who drowned in a swimming hole off Paradise Road near Red Rock.

Roberto Perez Juarez, 19 of Oxnard, was discovered in a swimming hole off the Santa Ynez River at the Falls Day Use area in Santa Barbara on Sunday afternoon.

This area is located near Red Rocks and is within the Los Padres National Forest and includes a picnic area, sandy beaches, and swimming holes in the river.

Juarez was recovered in deep water and authorities believe he was in the water for over an hour, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

According to a GoFundMe campaign, Juarez was enjoying the afternoon with his brothers, barbecuing in the picnic area and swimming in the river.

Juarez was swimming with his brother when he reportedly was dragged by a strong current. His brother attempted to rescue him but grew fatigued. He made it to shore and when he regained strength went back into the water but was unable to find him.

Juarez’s family resides in Veracruz, Mexico and they hope to have his body returned to them to give him “one last kiss goodbye.”

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau has determined the death to be accidental.
