An online fundraiser has been created for the family of Allyson Buist who died from her injuries due to a traffic collision on Highway 101 near Goleta.

The 35-year-old mother and wife from San Luis Obispo who worked as a sales manager for a winery passed away on Sunday at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.

Buist was traveling with her husband Austin and 4-month-old son Maverick on September 10 when a vehicle made an unsafe u-turn onto Highway 101 southbound, just north of Las Varas Canyon Road.

The California Highway Patrol reports the vehicles collided in the number one lane and came to rest approximately 20 feet off the roadway. There were a total of five injuries with Allyson Buist suffering major injuries, her husband suffered minor injuries and her child was uninjured. The passengers in the other vehicles suffered minor and moderate injuries as well.

A GoFundMe account has been created by friends and family to support Austin and Maverick while covering any medical bills.

“Allyson was a light and a force in so many lives. She was a loving daughter, amazing big sister, devoted friend,” the fundraiser page states.

As of Thursday morning, over $40,000 have been donated.

  1. The insurance limit won’t be in millions, and claims take time to settle, sometimes many years! The money will pay for hospital bills that insurance doesn’t cover, as well as lost work, funeral expenses and things like that.
