Freedom Warming Centers Activated for Storm

Source: City of Goleta

A storm is expected to hit Santa Barbara County early Tuesday morning and should continue throughout the day with periods of brief heavy downpours. There are currently lightning strikes near the center of the storm which indicates to the National Weather Service that thunder and possibly lightning should be expected when the storm reaches land. Should we have any thunder cells come through it is not expected for them to stay for long as they will be fast moving. Remember – When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors! 1. I lived in Phoenix, AZ. for over 8 years (June, 2003 – Oct., 2011), and when it came to lighting during monsoon season, it was mean and wicked. A few homes were struck by lighting and burned. I resided in a trailer park, and the lighting came pretty close striking the the trailer park.

  2. Las Positas panhandlers were out there yesterday in that downpour. One on southbound offramp and a woman on the northbound offramp. One was leaning on a crutch; the other was barely able to stand up. CHP needs to address this dangerous situation that is occurring daily. They are both so unsteady and frail looking. Come on, Santa Barbara, get these people into a safe place. There is a new encampment in a narrow space between the offramp and the 101….very dangerous………please, caltrans, clean it out before it grows.
