Fred Ovington Smith, 84 years, journeyed to the Lord on February 16th ... his birthday.

He was born and raised in Santa Barbara; graduated from Santa Barbara High ('51) and served in the U.S. Navy.

After retiring from the Retail Clerks, Fred went on to his second career at the Santa Barbara County Food Bank, where he then helped support the needs of many in the community.

Fred was a volunteer with the local chapter of the Boy Scouts of America where he served as cubmaster.

Fred is survived by is wife of 57 years Dolores (Douglas) Smith and their three children: Christopher (Stacey), Barri (Dennis) and Gary Smith, four grandchildren: Jackson Crose, Mathew, Rylie and Cameron Smith.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on the 7th of April at Mt. Carmel Church in Montecito.

Contributions may be made to Hospice or Sarah House.

Related to Earle Ovington presumably (wikipedia.org/wiki/Earle_Ovington), and probably knew many family stories about the beginnings of aviation in Santa Barbara. RIP Fred.
