Foxy Lady

By Chuck Cagara

While taking a few days for R&R near Yosemite, I ran into this beautiful Gray Fox (or Grey if you prefer) roaming near our pond in the early morning.

Some years ago I noticed that our suet feeders were being raided each night and couldn’t figure the source.  Then, when I went on “stake out,” I saw the culprit – a gray fox jumping into the tree and climbing to the feeders.  Mmmm… good eats!

Reading that the gray fox is the only North American canid that climbs I subsequently witnessed one or more over the years eating our plums and apricots as well.  Fine by me.
