Four Deaths and 30 New COVID-19 Cases

The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department (PHD) is reporting four additional deaths of individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 and 30 new cases.

Two resided in the Santa Ynez Valley inclusive of cities of Solvang and Buellton, and the communities of Santa Ynez, Los Alamos, Los Olivos and Ballard, were between the ages of 50-69, and both had underlying medical conditions. Two resided in the City of Santa Maria, one between the ages of 50-69 and one aged 70+, both had underlying medical conditions. None of the residents reported were in congregate living facilities.

There are now 8,579 total cases with 202 currently active. There are 37 hospitalizations including 11 in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Cottage Health-Specific Data

Below is a status update as of September 10, 2020. 

  • Cottage Health is caring for a total of 255 patients across all campuses.

  • 197 are acute care patients; 191 acute care beds remain available.  

  • Of the 197 acute care patients, 6 patients are on ventilators.
    84 ventilators remain available (adult, pediatric and neonatal ventilators).

  • Of the 197 acute care patients, 14 are in isolation with COVID-19 symptoms;
    12 are confirmed COVID-19 positive.

  • Of the 14 patients in isolation, 3 patients are in critical care.

  • From August 24-30:  
    2,031 COVID-19 laboratory tests were collected by Cottage Health.
    Results: 77 positive, 1,953 negative, 1 pending

  • From August 31-Sept 6:  
    1,835 COVID-19 laboratory tests were collected by Cottage Health.
    Results: 46 positive, 1,683 negative, 106 pending
