Flood Prep & Oil Art

By John Wiley

When we flew past Carp on Tuesday afternoon just as the light rainfall was starting, we noticed some of the flood preparation work. At the main debris basin above town, they still had two machines digging down in the pit. Down in the Salt Marsh they’d moved the dredge barge into a side channel and parked the big backhoe. Near the oil dock there was an intricate oil slick reminiscent of those oily puddles we splashed through in the street as kids. Beautiful until I recall the process of removing it after a beach walk.
