  1. Yeah it has little to do with weather and more to do with people making bad choices. In places that experience more weather than we have there are issues with drivers getting stuck in mud, sliding off roads with ice, etc. It is really a lack of common sense and people thinking that they are immune to bad things.

  2. People make bad judgements. It’s hard to tell how deep standing water is, and you can’t see what is submerged: muck to get stuck in, a super-deep hole? People also lack understanding of the force of running water. But people want to get where they are going and are over-confident of their vehicle’s ability to get through. While I won’t say it could happen to anyone, it’s not necessarily an indication of idiocy.
