Flash Mob and Bake Sale Benefitting Ukraine This Saturday

By edhat staff

This Saturday, March 26, a bake sale and flash mob will take place on State Street to raise money for Ukraine.

The community is invited to join World Dance for Humanity and the local Ukrainian community from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., on State Street at De la Guerra.

“Since the Russian invasion on February 24th, World Dance has put all its efforts into helping Ukraine, raising funds through classes and donations. So far [we] have raised $50,000 with $20,000 of this a MATCH from an Angel Donor who has offered to MATCH everything they can raise!” said Janet Reineck,  Founder & Executive Director of World Dance for Humanity.

All money raised is going through the First Ukrainian Evangelical Baptist Church of Santa Barbara, and is being wired directly to Rivne and Lviv to buy food, medicine, and supplies for people in desperate need, Reineck said.

On Friday afternoon Reineck reported that Pastor Mikhail confirmed the money raised so far is going to volunteers in Rivne and Lviv who are using their personal vehicles, and borrowing vans from companies, to go into the war zone and pick up families from war-torn cities such as Kyiv, Donetsk, Kharkiv, and Chernigov, to bring them to safety.

Dancers have been practicing at Chase Palm Park in preparation for Saturday and they expect a big turnout.

“Our money is being used for gas for the vehicles and food to bring to refugees… Donations small and large are welcome. 100% of every donation goes entirely to people in need in Ukraine and is tax-deductible,” said Reineck.

All donations can be made at https://worlddanceforhumanity.org/donate-ukraine/.
