Five Students Qualify for National Merit Scholarship

Five high school students from Santa Barbara Unified School District were among the approximately 16,000 semifinalists announced today who qualified for the 2018 National Merit® Scholarship Program, an academic competition for recognition and scholarships. Semifinalist may be considered for a National Merit® Scholarship if they advance to the Finalist standing in the competition, which is determined by February. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®)—which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year—and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements.
