Members of local law enforcement and fire departments blared sirens and inspiring music outside Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital to honor healthcare workers.

First responders from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department, California Highway Patrol, paramedics and EMTs from American Medical Response (AMR), and firefighters from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department (SBCFD) drove their vehicles into the hospital's parking lot Monday evening.

Outside the emergency room doors, they turned on the lights to their emergency vehicles, clapped, and played "Holding Out for a Hero" by Bonnie Taylor on full blast.

Their message to healthcare workers during the coronavirus pandemic was simple, thank you.

"Thank You to all hospital personnel across the nation for their tireless efforts in the battle against COVID19. We Thank You," wrote Mike Eliason from the SBCFD.

Below are videos of their tribute:

I appreciate gestures, but -- thanks are like tots and pears (thoughts and prayers) after mass shootings. DO SOMETHING. VOTE. SUPPORT VOTING RIGHTS. GIVE RENT MONEY AND FOOD TO THE SUDDENLY UNEMPLOYED. Thank you.

I am really getting concerned with the lack of masks or any PPE being used by our first responders throughout SB south county. Every photo of a crime scene or accident that is posted flaunts bare faces working merely a foot or two apart from each other. These professions require working in close quarters with vulnerable populations! I don't understand why our leaders aren't making this a priority.

Thanks for your SOH. I was watching the rest of this video (the police/fire/emt parade) and crying. Most people really are good. It's just a few who mess things up.

NYC, every night at 7pm, people in apartments, out of windows, clapping/yelling/banging pans, in salute and thanks to healthcare workers. Can we put "thank you" signs in our yards? In our windows?

In Brazil they are doing the same to protest their President's ignorant response to the spread of COVID-19 down there. We might consider imitating them.
