A small brush fire broke out near the railroad tracks and salt marsh behind Aliso School on the evening of July 5, prompting a swift response from multiple fire agencies.
The fire was reported around 8:30 p.m., and the first arriving unit found a 10×10 foot blaze. Crews quickly deployed resources, knocking down the fire by 8:50 p.m. Responding agencies included Carpinteria-Summerland Fire, Montecito Fire, Ventura County Fire, and the U.S. Forest Service.
Although the fire was contained to a small area, its potential to spread in the dry brush highlights the ongoing danger of fire season in the region. Fortunately, no injuries or structural damage were reported in connection with the incident.
The official cause of the fire remains under investigation, but witnesses in the area reported hearing and seeing fireworks in that area just prior to the fire’s ignition. Fireworks are illegal in most parts of the county and pose significant fire hazards, particularly during the dry summer months.
Authorities are reminding the public to remain vigilant and to avoid using fireworks or engaging in other activities that could ignite fires.
“Fireworks and dry brush are a dangerous mix,” the Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District said in a statement. “Let’s all do our part to keep our community safe.”
Emergency responders have praised the quick and coordinated effort that successfully contained the blaze, a reminder of the importance of preparedness during fire season.
