Firefighters Respond to Gas Leak on Cliff Drive in Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara City Firefighters responded to a gas leak in the 1400 block of Cliff Drive on Wednesday.

Crews responded to 1407 Cliff Drive at 2:02 p.m. and found a gas pipeline leaking between the street and the meter due to construction.

Seventeen fire personnel responded, including E71, E75, E76, T71 and BC71, according to the fire department.

Nearby properties were promptly evacuated as the gas company worked to mitigate the leak.

The fire crews sheltered eighty people in place at the Cliff Drive Care Center Preschool while SoCal Gas Company personnel shut off the leak.

Crews were able to clear the scene at approximately 3:30 p.m. with the situation resolved.
