Firefighters Rescue Man Stuck on Radio Tower

Santa Barbara County Fire crews rescued a man stuck in a radio tower 100 feet off the ground on Wednesday afternoon.

At 1:34 pm, crews responded to radio towers just east of Highway 101 to help a man stuck on one of the towers. He was up there doing some repair work when he began to feel weak and fainted. Realizing he could not make the descent back the o ground, the man became stuck 100 feet off the ground.

It took approximately 2 hours to complete the rescue alongside the Santa Maria Urban Search and Rescue team. Rescue crews set up a rope system where they lowered a firefighter down to the man before lowering both to the ground. AMR Paramedics helped the man once back on the ground, and determined he did not need to go to the hospital.
