At 7:27 am this [Saturday] morning Carpinteria-Summerland Fire District along with Montecito Fire District responded to reports of smoke off Highway 101 near the southbound exit in Summerland.
Upon arrival a small fire 30×30 feet was found at a homeless encampment off the cliff area in Summerland overlooking the ocean.
The fire was knocked down at 8:15 am.
Santa Barbara Sheriff Department and AMR were on scene. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
Let’s hope they boot them out of there for good. Talk about polluting the ocean. Plastic, poop, needles, trash, all of it. I like the idea of Channelkeeper coming in with volunteers to clean the crap up so taxpayers don’t have to foot the entire bill.
Why is it illegal for those of us who look like we can be “fined $$$” to camp or make fires on the beach front property, and are immediately told to move along, but this trashing & ocean polluting still is allowed ??? 🙁
AHLIA – because you’re camping, they’re trying to live. Because you can pay a fine and they can’t and no one wants to fill our already crowded jails with homeless people just because they tried to sleep. Because you have a choice to sleep outdoors, they don’t.
Also, it’s not legal for them do it either.
I’ve had the same thought. What if I took my tent down to East Beach and set up camp for a week or so? Trash, stoves, and fires, no bathroom. Hopefully with the Supreme Court decision things are moving in the direction of enforcement, rather than enabling and looking the other way. It’s happening up in Santa Maria/SLO. SB will be very resistant to handle this the same way, if you ask me. Too politically-incorrect to boot homeless encampments out? We’ll see.
You’re confusing “political correctness” with morals, empathy and humanity, again.
Hmm. Ok, I see. Your version of those three adjectives means you support, and want the public to facilitate their decision to live wherever and however they want.
Squalid and polluting our environment isn’t a good way to live.
SB High? Me too. What year?
And yeah, my insults could let up, but man…. you need to stop making things up out of thin air, in addition to a lot of other things.
Do you see the error? I said homelessness should be addressed with “morals, empathy and humanity” and then you twist that and cerate an illogical conclusion that I support them living and doing whatever they want.
That is poor reasoning. This is why I have so much trouble believing anything you say, especially about your academic accolades. You’re not using reason or logic in any of your comments, just insults and false claims and faulty reasoning. Signs of someone who doesn’t have the abilities you boast of.
If it bothers you, just don’t read it. ; ) Cheers!
YIN – likewise. Why do you insist on doing the very thing that you complain about? It’s like a weekly thing for you now.
Good that now we can move these campers out of high fire zones.
We also need laws to address those who choose a feral life of drug abuse and continuing to abuse not just drugs but the communities and taxpayers where they live.
When we pay money for parks and recreation is shouldn’t be for picking up the parks from the WRECK they leave behind: trash stolen bikes poo needles and other human waste products.
