Firearms Recovered from Suspected Gang Member

Source: Santa Maria Police Department

On August 19, 2021, at about 4:00 PM, SMPD Detectives and the Special Enforcement Team (SET) conducted a search of a vehicle and residence of a known gang associate.  During the search, detectives contacted Edgardo Carballo-Rivera, 19 years of age, a resident of Santa Maria.

Carballo-Rivera was contacted in possession of a loaded Polymer 80 handgun.  The handgun is often referred to as “ghost gun” due to lack of serial numbers.  A subsequent search of his residence was completed.  A loaded AR style pistol was discovered within his residence.  The AR pistol was also found to lack any serial numbers.

Carballo-Rivera was arrested and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for Child Endangerment, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, Possession of an Assault Weapon and a Violation of Probation.

The Santa Maria Police Department continues its efforts to remove firearms from those who legally should not possess them.  The SMPD Detective Bureau asks anyone with information related to illegal firearms to contact (805) 928-3781 X2277 or the tip line at (805) 928-3781 XCOPS (2677).
