The Indochine nightclub on State Street in downtown Santa Barbara was engulfed by fire, prompting a swift response from the Santa Barbara Fire Department shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Firefighters were battling the blaze in the 400 block from both inside and outside the establishment, working to contain the fire to the building and prevent it from spreading to nearby businesses. Although smoke damage did reportedly extend to neighboring buildings.
Despite the intensity of the fire, which was powerful enough to shatter the glass front of the building, there were no injuries reported. This was partly due to the nightclub being unoccupied at the time of the fire.
Video footage posted on social media by @onsantabarbara shows employees from the restaurant next door fleeing the building as flames emit from the front door area.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.
The Indochine nightclub, known for its vibrant atmosphere and musical events, reopened under new ownership this summer. A post on their instagram page states they remodeled their patio just two months ago.
This is a developing story.

I will always remember that location as Joseppi’s, the best jazz bar for a hundred miles. It was among the first, if not the very first, to ban cigarette smoking inside and they lost business because of it, but Joseppi didn’t mind. He was a gem.
I have a couple of minuscule pearls from oysters at Joseppi’s. Good old times indeed.
That’s awesome!
Yes, he was a gem, a kind man! Joseppi gave me his marinated stuffed artichoke recipe decades ago. A fine gentleman.
Joseppi was a nice person- indocine was a crack house- new temp owners tried to give it a go
