At 11:04 Wednesday morning, the Santa BarCounty Fire Department responded to a report of a vegetation fire on the 1200 Block of Alamo Pintado Rd in Santa Ynez Valley.

The first firefighters on scene saw a small fire burning light grass in a somewhat rugged canyon, although it was accessible. The fire was surrounded on three sides by vineyards, which aided in the firefighting efforts.

Santa Barbara County’s Firefighters kept the fire under what they believed was half an acre in containment with three engine companies, two fire county hand crews, and helicopter dousing the fire. Once the depth of the canyon was taken into an account after a firefighter used GPS they learned the fire was just over 1.4 acres in size.

Winds were favorable for this time of day so there were no structures threatened, evacuations, or injuries. An investigator was on the scene to figure out the cause of the fire.
