One of the buzziest films at the festival this year, at least among my boomery friends, is “Peter Asher: Everywhere Man”.
The film is a lively, thoroughly enjoyable recounting of the life of Peter Asher, who was a behind-the-scenes creator of and witness to many of the biggest pop culture phenomenon of the last five decades.
Born to British gentry, Peter began an acting career at age 7-ish with his two red-headed sisters. One of them, Jane Asher, started to date Paul McCartney who then lived at their house before he skyrocketed to fame in the Beatles.
McCartney narrates much of the beginning of the film. He wrote songs for “Peter and Gordon”, Asher’s British Invasion band. Here’s “World Without Love”: World Without Love.
Other pop culture icons of the time, including Twiggy, make appearances. And, that’s just the beginning of the story. The film is briskly paced and has great archival footage. If you want a trip back to swinging London and more, “Everywhere Man” is your Astin Martin.
The film plays twice more:
- Thursday, February 12, 2 pm, SBIFF Film Center, Auditorium #1
- Saturday, February 14, time TBA
