  1. Bear spray is illegal for use on humans because of the high level of chemicals compared to regular pepper spray. Maybe you won’t care during but you might care afterwards if the cops make an issue out of it. Probably none of us have had to use pepper spray but does anyone know of a case where a perp was able to ignore a blast of spray in their face? Maybe someone on PCP?

  2. Don’t really consider Yeti’s comment as “victim blaming”. How about good street smarts? It sucks females always need to be have situational awareness when jogging alone and especially at night but that’s simply the world we live in.

  3. I agree with CoastWatch, and that’s about what I was gonna say. I’m NOT accusing anybody of anything, BUT, I was gonna point out the location, is known to have homeless folks hanging out. Plus, that stretch of Calle Real has a lot of places for bad people to hang out. She shouldn’t be out jogging by herself…. lesson learned, and luckily she survived. Hope they will catch the low-life-waste of oxygen-sub-human common thief.

  4. There are a lot of vagrants who live around that area. We live in a first world country in one of the most expensive cities. You would think we should be safe to walk around at night without being attacked by vagrants or thugs.

  5. Run when you can and want to . But bring a friend, dog or pepper spray. I am so glad she fought him off. I hope she keeps on running. The homeless have it hard enough without assuming negative things so quickly.
