Fatal Vehicle Rollover on Highway 101 Near Fairview

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) has released its initial report on this incident.

The Santa Barbara County Coroner’s Bureau has confirmed 55-year-old Florencio Lagara-Perez of Santa Barbara succumbed to his injuries as a result of this crash.

Accordng to the CHP report, around 5:15 a.m. a blue 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck entered the Fairview Ave northbound onramp to Highway 101, spun out and rolled over.

The pickup came to rest on its roof off the right shoulder of the roadway.

The passenger was pronounced dead by arriving emergency responders. The driver, 64-year-old Peter Contreras of Santa Barbara, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for treatment.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected as a factor of this crash. The incident remains under investigation.

One person has died in a vehicle rollover collision on Highway 101 northbound at the Fairview onramp.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to the scene at 5:24 a.m. Tuesday.

One person was pronounced dead on the scene and another person sustained minor injuries, according to the Fire Department.

All traffic lanes are currently open.
