Update by California Highway Patrol
On November 11, 2017, at approximately 4:45 P.M., a single vehicle fatal traffic collision occurred on SR-154 eastbound, west of Salvar Road. The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office, Santa Barbara Police Department, Santa Barbara County Fire Department, and American Medical Response Ambulance Company responded to the collision scene.
The driver, a Santa Maria resident, drove his Honda Civic eastbound on SR-154 (San Marcos Pass) toward Santa Barbara. The Honda swerved within the eastbound lane then across the center of the highway. The Honda swerved back across the eastbound lane and then off the paved road edge. The Honda overturned as it reentered the road. The driver, although seat belted, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the collision. The passenger, Ms. Amber Cave of Santa Maria, sustained only minor injuries.
SR-154 was closed in both directions for approximately three hours, while the CHP conducted the on-scene portion of this traffic collision investigation. Eastbound traffic was routed off the highway at San Antonio Creek Road, and westbound traffic was routed off the highway at SR-192 (Cathedral Oaks).
The collision remains under investigation at this time. Victim information will be releasable through the Santa Barbara County Coroner’s office after next of kin have been notified.

One man was killed in a single rollover traffic collision on SR-154 near Foothill Road on Saturday afternoon.
At 4:48 p.m., Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to the collision just north of Cathedral Oaks/Foothill Road with AMR ambulance, California Highway Patrol (CHP), and Santa Barbara City firefighters.
On arrival, crews found a small sedan that looked to be a Honda Civic had rolled over with two occupants inside. A male was reportedly deceased on arrival while a female was complaining of moderate injuries. They both appeared to be in their 30’s or 40’s, said Captain Dave Zaniboni. The female was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by ground ambulance.
The cause of the rollover will be investigated by CHP. The roadway is open in both directions while traffic is still backed up.

There’s a major traffic back up on Highway 154 just north of Cathedral Oaks/Foothill. It looks to be a collision, but there are a lot of police and sirens in the area.
Where was the CHP last night? Hundreds of folks diverted off 154 through the neighborhoods. No traffic control at all. Took over 1 1/2 hours to travel about 3 miles to Cathedral Oaks where the stop light continued to give green light to non-existing traffic and blocks hundreds of backed-up cars coming down. If there had been any emergency in those neighborhoods there was no way to get through – – – for hours!
