Farmers & Merchants Trust Co. Gift Holiday Apples to SBPD

By Farmers and Merchants Trust Company

On Wednesday, December 7, 2022, the tradition of gifting apples to first responders was continued by Farmers and Merchants Trust Company in Santa Barbara to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

The apples were presented by Frank Tabar SVP, April Montoya, Alexandra Chambers VP and Del Rudeen VP of Farmers and Merchants Trust Company.  The apples were accepted on behalf of Police Chief Kelly Gordon by Nicole Kasper, Officer Drayton and Officer Ragsdale of SBPD.

Farmers and Merchants Trust Company (FMTC) California’s oldest continuously operating trust company, brings its custom of gratitude to the Santa Barbara area by delivering over 100 apples to the Santa Barbara Police Department for the 6th year, as part of a longstanding Christmas tradition that was started in 1938 shortly after Gus Walker became President of FMTC.  Since police personnel are not allowed to receive monetary gifts, Gus chose Washington Apples.  At the time, Washington Apples were nearly twice the size of an average apple and were the highest quality Gus could find on the West Coast.

Our local first responders work tirelessly to protect our city year-round and the tradition of gifting apples is simply our way of saying Merry Christmas and thank you for your service.

Since 2017, the Santa Barbara office of Farmers and Merchants Trust Company, has kept the tradition of delivering apples to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Farmers and Merchants Trust Company is located in the historic Folk Mote Music building which is at the corner of Santa Barbara and Figueroa Streets.
