False Reports on Santa Maria Police Shooting

Source: Santa Maria Police Department

The SMPD has been made aware that multiple social media postings have indicated that SMPD Officers were shot at during a recent pursuit. The reports are inaccurate and these events have not occurred. The source of this information is unknown, but the information listed in the postings is incorrect.

The SMPD is however, investigating a report of a shooting that occurred at approximately 2145 hours in the south western portion of the city. Officers responded to the area and attempted to stop a vehicle believed to be involved. The vehicle fled and evaded officers. Officers located the vehicle later in the evening and contacted several subjects.

As of this time, no arrests have been made. There were no reports of injuries to any citizens or officers. The case remains under investigation. Anyone who may have information about this incident is urged to contact the SMPD
