Modified Holiday Service & Extra Waste Collection

Source: City of Santa Barbara

We're making it easy to get rid of all the extra stuff left after the big parties are thrown, meals are eaten, presents are open, and trees are decorated.

From December 26th to January 6th, MarBorg will be collecting extra items from all City residential customers at no extra charge.

Customers can put out up to 95 gallons of extra trash (brown bin), recyclables (blue bin) or greenwaste (green bin). Just leave bags or bundles out at your normal pickup location, no bulky waste allowed. If there is excessive amounts of extra waste, please call MarBorg at 805-963-1852 so they can accommodate the special pickup.

Modified Holiday Schedule

The City of Santa Barbara and MarBorg are closed on Christmas (Dec. 25) and New Year's Day (Jan 1). Waste collection will be delayed by one day after these holidays.

Residential and Commercial pickups during Dec. 25-28 & Jan. 1-4 will be delayed by one day.

However, Monday pickups for these two weeks are on a normal pickup schedule.

What that means:

  • If you're normally picked up on Tuesday, your pickup day will be Wednesday. If normally picked up Wednesday, your pickup day will be Thursday, and so on.

Call MarBorg with questions, 805-963-1852.

Christmas Tree Pickup

We will also take your Christmas trees! You don't need to cut them down unless they are taller than 6 feet. Simply:

  • Strip the tree of ornaments, garlands, and tinsel. We do not take flocked trees (unless you can remove the flocking).

  • Remove the tree stand.

  • Set the whole tree out with your waste.

Let me introduce a note of reality: What about all the styrofoam packing for big items like 50" TVs? No matter what you do with it--throw it in the ocean, burn it, bury it, it's an environmental hazard.

Weird to deny Christmas but provide all these paid days off and extra services because of Christmas. Schizophrenic. Either there are Christmas holidays and recognized as such, or there are just plain work week days and normal activities. And they can officially come up with another reason to give paid days off and close schools.

Are they not just responding to the need in order to keep the trash generated by a lot of people at Christmas from littering our streets? Other countries may have special pickups at different times of the year for their celebrations. Regardless, what purpose does your comment serve to anyone, which arguably could be said for me commenting on it! I won't get those five minutes back. It's a rhetorical question, right...
