According to the Los Angeles Times, the explosion occurred around 9:30 p.m. and several videos showed a massive fireball erupting amid a loud and extended roar. But over the next hour, the blaze died down considerably and the skies largely cleared while bright, strong flames continued to burn near the southern portion of Chevron’s plant.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said in an X post, “I’ve been briefed on the fire in El Segundo outside of our city limits and I’ve also spoken with Supervisor @HollyJMitchell. LAFD stands at the ready to assist with any mutual aid request. There is no known impact to LAX at this time. We will continue to monitor this situation.”
Chevron’s El Segundo facility, one of the largest oil refineries on the U.S. West Coast, processes over 276,000 barrels of crude daily, producing gasoline, jet fuel, and diesel, according to the company’s website.

GOO
Don’t they have these like almost every year with some sort of strategic timing. Get ready for higher gas prices. So predictable.
Yeah, they blew the he)) out of this facility on purpose. Sure thing, bruh.
Yep. They needed a big upgrade. So get ready for higher gas prices for the next 2 years – bruh.
Hey, you know what kind of energy production tech does NOT have massively destructive, insanely expensive, potentially deadly fires like this?
Hint: Some dumbF&%$s think the noise they make causes cancer.
MAGAcan Repuglicrats always cry about how many birds windmills supposedly kill. Yet, if you bring up that refineries and even tall buildings kill way more birds annually, then they deflect or make some false claims.
GT – because they’re all so absolutely lazy and unintelligent that they truly believe what Trump tells them. Facts are nonsense to them.
I worked in the industry for years and can tell you even the oil and gas guys know better. They just have the decency to not pretend to believe the BS BASIC others like to peddle here about renewable energy.
YOU worked “in the industry”, As what?
Engineer? QC? Welder?
I am curious.
TNYDK – Yeah, I sure did. Not a welder…..
Do we know how many people get sick or die from coal and oil related activities? Hahhahaha, of course we have some idea. They care more about birds than people. But, ya, we all already knew that. They so Low IQ. Very, very Low IQ.
