A private collection of rare Santa Barbara Bowl concert posters are on display and for sale at The Shopkeepers in Santa Barbara's Funk Zone.
In the absence of world-class music on the Central Coast this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there's an exclusive gallery experience featuring the private Santa Barbara Bowl concert poster collection of Moss Jacobs, longtime talent buyer for the venue. This extremely rare collection features work from world-renowned concert poster designers including, EMEK.
“I started collecting concert art as a teen before I could drive,” says Jacobs. “I had a number of Fillmore posters from classic Bill Graham events in the late 60s. They are personal treasures I still have to this day, framed and up in my home."
The collection includes colorful prints from Radiohead, Bright Eyes, Alabama Shakes, Beck, the Beastie Boys, and the Black Keys from varying decades.
"As my career trajectory became clear, I found myself still gravitating to and instigating concert art at my events. Now I have upwards of a few thousand posters in my collection," says Jacobs. "Given the pandemic, I thought why not make a display of some of this great art that others can appreciate and reminisce over. Part of this has been a rediscovery of my collection with a creative push from Darcy [at The Shopkeepers] who looked at my art with new eyes and envisioned it in her shop. The organizational benefit of this has also been great! These posters are not doing anyone any good under my bed!”
The posters are on display just in time for the holiday shopping season, all prints are available for sale in both framed and unframed formats, with 10% of the proceeds from each sale going to the Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
The posters will be on view indefinitely or until sold out. The Shopkeepers is located at 137 Anacapa Street, Suite A, in Santa Barbara.
