A large Eucalyptus tree has fallen on the roof of a condo near the Santa Barbara Zoo. The photos were taken on Cabrillo Blvd but the condos are located on Por La Mar Circle.

NATURE BOY. What species then? The upper branches and leaf growth sure resemble euc. Last time I checked (and that was a while ago) there were 44 different species of Eucalyptus here in Santa Barbara.

Looking at the city MAPS site, these trees are most likely eucalyptus cornuta, aka yate

Interesting; what is the address of the city website that lists the tree species?

Having trouble posting the link. Try googling City of Santa Barbara + city street trees. The specific page is called: MAPS - Mapping Analysis & Printing System
You will need to click the bar at the bottom entitled "Launch the Mapping Analysis & Printing System"
Wait a few seconds. On the left you will see a list of checked boxes. Scroll down to Vegetation and click, then click "Tree Inventory." Zoom in to the area of interest and wait a few seconds. Trees will appear with identification. You can zoom in and out. We found this tool very useful and interesting.

VINSB: Thank you thank you THANK YOU. ***What a great share.*** Just now I had way too much fun looking up the Yates down by Escorial and then looking up my own street tree to see if the City got it right. My tree is there, by gum, but misspelled " Swamp Mahogony" instead of the correct "Swamp MahogAny." What a gaffe. Haha. But what fun. Thanks for posting the link. There are so many "mystery" trees-----have to go now and look them all up.

I wonder if this tree belongs to the City and does that mean they have to pay for the damages it causes. We have bottlebrush Eucs on our street that drop limbs regularly. A few cars have been hit but no one has successfully gotten any money out of the city for it.
