Environmental Impact Report on Use of Cannabis

The Board of Supervisors has directed staff to develop comprehensive cannabis regulations for activities associated with the Medicinal and Adult Use Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act. This includes the cultivation, distribution, storage, manufacturing, processing, testing, and selling of nonmedical and medical cannabis, nonmedical and medical cannabis products, and personal cultivation.

Yesterday, the county issued its Notice of Preparation of an Environmental Impact Report for the Cannabis Land Use Ordinance and Licensing Program. The purpose of the NOP is to solicit comments on the environmental information to be included in the EIR. The EIR will consider the potential environmental effects of the Project based on the comments received. Click here to see the NOP, along with the Environmental Scoping Document. All comments must be received by 5 p.m. (PST) Friday, August 11, 2017. Written comments can be sent to Jessica Metzger (contact information below), or you may email comments to cannabisinfo@countyofsb.org.

Planning and Development will also conduct two meetings to provide additional opportunities for the public to comment on the scope and content of the environmental issues that should be addressed. All interested parties are encouraged to attend.

Santa Barbara meeting:

5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 26 at the Board Hearing Room, Fourth Floor, 105 East Anapamu Street.

Santa Maria meeting:

5:30 p.m., Thursday, July 27 at the Betteravia Government Center, 511 East Lakeside Parkway.
