Emergency Tree Trimming in Santa Barbara Shores Neighborhood

The City of Goleta is performing emergency tree trimming at two public open spaces located in the Santa Barbara Shores neighborhood.  The work involves trimming downed trees blocking a public trail and reducing tree fall risk and associated damage to life and private property.  Heavy equipment, trucks, and accompanying noise during work hours can be expected.  The specific work and locations include:    

• Trim three trees blocking the trail leading west from the end of Coronado Drive (Work already completed.)
• Trim 21 trees at Campus Glen Open Space, located near the end of Coronado Drive
• Trim 16 trees at Santa Barbara Shores Open Space, located between Newport Drive and Santa Barbara Shores Drive/Sea Gull Drive

Work at the Coronado Drive site is expected to be finished by the end of this week.  The Newport Drive site is anticipated to begin on Monday, July 20, and be completed by July 24.  Weekday work is limited to 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and no activity will occur on the weekends.  Your patience is appreciated as the City completes this important public safety improvement.

The work is authorized by an emergency permit from the City of Goleta and an emergency Coastal Development Permit from the California Coastal Commission.  Wildlife surveys were completed and no nesting birds or other protected, sensitive resources were found.  A biologist will continue to monitor the work and watch for any potential impacts to wildlife.
