I thought the exact same. Perhaps a body surfer and reminded with such an abrupt crash that it’s not the best place for body surfing!

I live nearby and have "body surfed" East Beach plenty. Mostly only when the water is warmer (not now). It's not true body surfing, but still a good time. Also, "under current" is not the correct term. I am guessing you are referring to rip currents and I would say they're not that strong on East Beach. One possibility is this was a kite surfer tangled up in their lines or unable to get back to the beach. I have seen a few beginner kite surfers at East Beach practicing recently and I could easily see one of them getting into trouble.

ZERO - I've seen plenty of tourists in my time trying to body surf (unsuccessfully) there. Not that far fetched a thing to imagine.

lol....have you ever body surfed at east beach? I have not and never have seen anyone there doing that. It's not a surfing spot by any means. Maybe fishing, kayaking, swimming? There are a few strong under currents near there that I am aware of. Perhaps they got sucked out to sea from a current? Idk...
