Early Morning Structure Fire Displaces Tenants

Early this morning at 1:47am Santa Barbara City firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire in the 900 block of Bath St. Smoke was visible from several blocks away. Engine 1 arrived first on scene, and the captain reported smoke and flames were visible from the multi-family dwelling. The firefighters initiated a fast attack and took hose lines interior to fight the fire. The fire was knocked down in 9 minutes. All of the occupants had evacuated prior to firefighters arriving. There were a total of four occupants displaced by the fire. All were offered, and assisted with accommodations for the night.
 
No injuries were reported by fire officials on scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation with the initial damage estimated to be approximately $10,000 The response included three fire engines, a ladder truck, and a Battalion Chief Officer. Santa Barbara City Police responded and assisted with traffic control. Fire officials would like to highlight an alert neighbor that investigated the sounding alarm of the detector. Smoke detectors save lives. Your home should have a working smoke detector in every room.
