DUI Vehicle Collision at Dos Pueblos

5:00 p.m., June 3, 2021

On June 03, 2021, at approximately 2:17 a.m., a traffic collision occurred on U.S. 101 southbound, north of Dos Pueblos Canyon Road.  A 2014 Toyota Corolla, driven by Adriana Chavez, a 26-year-old resident of Goleta, was traveling within the number one lane.  Kassandra Soto, a 23-year-old resident of Goleta, was seated in the right rear seat.  
 
Ms. Chavez made an unsafe turning movement and drove off the road and down a dirt embankment.  The Toyota overturned onto its right-side and collided with a tree.  The passenger was ejected from the vehicle; it is unknown at this time if she was wearing a seatbelt.  The passenger suffered major injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital via American Medical Response (A.M.R.).  The driver suffered minor injuries including abrasions and scratches.
 
During the course of the investigation, CHP officers determined Ms. Chavez was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision.  Ms. Chavez was placed under arrest for 23153(a) VC and 23152(b) VC – Felony DUI – Causing Injury.
 
This collision is still under investigation.

At about 2:38 am, a vehicle verses tree was reported at 101 southbound, north of the Dos Pueblos off-ramp. County Fire, CHP an AMR on scene by 3:46, working the incident.
