DUI Driver Injures Pedestrian and Crashes into Building in Santa Barbara

Intersection closed for 6 hours due to DUI collision

The Santa Barbara Police swiftly responded to an emergency call at about 4:00 am this morning regarding a traffic collision that had just occurred at the intersection of Yanonali Street and Calle Cesar Chavez.

The involved vehicle appears to have driven through the intersection, hit a pedestrian, and then ran through a gas meter on the other side of the curb, ending up in a building at the corner.

The collision caused a significant gas leak requiring emergency shut-off, with several roadways closed for about 6 hours. All roadways are [reopened] for traffic at about 10:00 am today.

The pedestrian hit was transported to Cottage Hospital with moderate injuries and is expected to recover fully. The driver was located and arrested for felony DUI and hit and run.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
