A man was taken into custody Saturday afternoon after a domestic disturbance escalated into a vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash at the northbound La Cumbre Road exit, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Around 12:00 p.m. on March 28, officers responded to the 100 block of North Salinas Street for a report of an unknown disturbance. While they were en route, dispatchers received additional information indicating it was a domestic incident involving a man and a woman. Police said the man left before officers arrived but soon returned, driving recklessly and threatening officers.

When officers attempted a traffic stop, the suspect fled. Police initiated a brief pursuit but terminated it in the interest of public safety. Information about the vehicle was broadcast to allied agencies, including the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers later spotted the vehicle in downtown Santa Barbara and attempted a stop. The driver again failed to yield, prompting a pursuit through city streets and onto northbound U.S. 101.

The chase ended when the suspect crashed at the northbound La Cumbre Road exit. The driver was taken into custody without further incident.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. Authorities reported no ongoing threat to public safety.
