Domestic Dispute Leads to Shots Fired

Source: Santa Maria Police Department

Earlier today the Santa Maria Police Department responded to the call of a domestic dispute in the 1300 Block of Seaward Dr. It was reported that a verbal dispute could be heard between a man and a woman then what was believed to have been several gunshots.

Officers contained the location and attempted contact with the occupants of the home. Officers eventually made contact and requested that the occupants exit the home for the investigation to continue. The occupants refused to follow orders and attempted to provoke a potentially lethal confrontation with the offices outside the home. While these actions were taking place an officer deployed a less than lethal sponge projectile in an attempt to gain compliance of the male subject. The occupants retreated back inside the home and crisis negotiators continued to try and gain compliance and have the occupants surrender to officers. Just after 1:00 P.M. both parties were taken into custody without further incident.

The investigation continued and additional violations were discovered by detectives.

A criminal complaint against the female occupant of the residence will be forwarded to the Santa Barbara District Attorney for review. The male occupant John C. Bright, 48 a resident of Santa Maria was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail for the following violations:

69 P.C. – Resist Executive Officers
12276.4A P.C. – Possession of an Assault Weapon
33410 P.C. – Possession of a Silencer

  1. He was arrested for having illegal weapons; he was not a responsible gun owner. This all occurred during the commission of a crime. You left out that he is an older white guy; you might as well get all the standard SB SJW talking points in.
