Dog Rescued from Cliff Fall Now Available for Adoption

Source: Santa Barbara Police Department
On the morning of July 4, 2019, a Good Samaritan called the Santa Barbara Police Department to report a lifeless dog on the sand under a 70-foot cliff near the shoreline.
Santa Barbara Police Department responded with several Police Officers, Animal Control and Harbor Patrol.
When found by emergency personnel, he was near-lifeless with a faint pulse. Officers immediately transported the dog to Santa Barbara VCA Care Specialty & Emergency Animal Hospital to stabilize his life-threatening condition.
Santa Barbara County Animal Services partnered with area non-profits K-9 Placement and Assistance League (K-9 PALS) and Dog Adoption & Welfare Group (DAWG) to immediately band together to secure enough funds to pay for his emergency surgery. After a successful surgery, Lucas was on the mend, but still required several weeks of therapy and recuperative care, including physical therapy, medication to control his pain and prevent infection, as well as numerous follow-up vet appointments. He is currently with a loving foster family.
An investigation revealed that the unfortunate dog had fallen 70 feet from the cliff top then lay motionless in the sand for a full six hours before being discovered by the good Samaritans who called first responders. He was not microchipped and was not wearing an identification tag, nor have any of the involved groups been able to locate an owner.
Lucas quickly captured the hearts of the men and women of the Santa Barbara Police Department, and those of everyone who has been involved in his care, becoming the unofficial mascot of the department.
Santa Barbara County Animal Services monitored his care and continued to work with K-9 PALS and DAWG to prepare Lucas for eventual adoption.
That day has arrived! The final chapter of Lucas’ rescue is finding him a forever home.
SBCAS is working in conjunction with DAWG - Dog Adoption & Welfare Group to find the perfect match for Lucas.
