Santa Barbara County Juvenile Court Case Numbers: 22JV00276-C, 23JV00109-E, 22JV00358-C
Santa Barbara County District Attorney John Savrnoch announced [this week] that Petitions has been filed against three juveniles, in connection with the October 21, 2023, murder of an 18-year-old victim in the City of Santa Maria.
The three defendants, R.S., M.V., and F.C., are each charged with one felony count of First Degree Murder under Penal Code Section 187(a)/189 and are additionally charged with a Special Circumstance under Penal Code Section 190.2(a)(22) for a murder committed to further the activities of a criminal street gang, and a special allegation for the use of a firearm under Penal Code Section 12022.53 (d) & (e).
R.S., M.V., and F.C. are currently adults. However, they were juveniles when the murder occurred, so the Petitions must be filed in juvenile court.
The People have petitioned for each of them to be transferred to adult court. All three will be arraigned in Santa Maria Juvenile Court Department 1, on June 03, 2025.

If anyone is old enough to commit murder then they are old enough to be tried as n adult. The fiction about someone being too young to be penalized the same as adults is just that, a fiction.
