District Attorney Decides Not to Charge San Marcos Preserve Protestors
Source: Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office
District Attorney Joyce E. Dudley announced [Monday] that the District Attorney’s Office will not file criminal charges on the eight protesters who were arrested and cited for obstructing the free movement of people on a public street on February 25th, 2021 on Salvar Road near the San Marcos Preserve.
The contractor who was blocked from entering the property by the protesters initially sought law enforcement’s involvement, but subsequently, the property owner who employed the contractor informed Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office personnel that he did not want charges to be filed.
The property owner's and the contractor's input was taken into consideration both at the time of the arrests and at the time of making a filing decision.

Apr 06, 2021 06:39 PMBabycakes, how can you live with this sort of "logic"? It is fine to say they should not be prosecuted but it is absurd to comment that the people who are fighting for equality and justice are cause for fear. Sounds just like a GOP creep who said he was not afraid of the insurrectionists but would have been scared it it were Black people he saw in the capitol. Racist drivel.

Apr 07, 2021 05:36 PMTwo thumbs up Babycakes. We, as a community, coming together is the answer. The government should support our efforts but is not the answer.

Apr 07, 2021 05:04 PMZero- neither! I live here but do have a good friend that took an IT job in downtown Portland a couple years and is tangibly bothered and annoyed with the constant violence. Window smashing going on for a year isn’t productive. It’s a nuisance for everyone in Portland. Wouldn’t That same daily occurance in Sb be annoying? Why would you assume that’s right wing? Isn’t that just logic and life?

Apr 07, 2021 05:01 PMPit/Sac/RHS: I will agree to disagree with you, but the vitriol and name/lame calling is not helping. I refuse to be a victim, and offer a hand to come join with me. May you find peace by helping and sacrificing for others as I have. Government is not my answer. I look in the mirror for my answer....which is me.

Apr 07, 2021 09:49 AMBABYCAKES - "Their brand of 'logic'" meaning racial equality and justice? Is that what these "bullies" are forcing on you? Good Lord, listen to yourself. They're pissed off! It's 2021 and we still have racism rampant in our society and law enforcement! What else do you want them to do? They've marched peacefully, we tear gassed them. They took a knee, we shamed and boycotted them. They begged for equality and our cops killed them. What else can they do?

Apr 07, 2021 09:25 AMBullies always try to downgrade and humiliate, and try to force their will (and their brand of "logic") upon you. In my way of thinking, which may not be logical to the bullies of the world, physical violence, looting and burning down minority-owned businesses and neighborhoods has absolutely nothing to do with equality or social justice. I guess I'm "old school" and believe that hate/mayhem/violence does not help minorities or bring about social justice.

Apr 06, 2021 08:27 PMRHS - how can you live with that logic? The Portland protests have devolved into just violence and destruction for the sake of violence and destruction. People in Portland are quite upset by the never ending cycle of violence.

Apr 06, 2021 04:30 PMThank goodness. After a bit of reflection on this, those arrested were not in the classical sense "protestors." They were actually just upset individuals who were acting out a bit, but pretty harmless and mild. Cops would rather have these folks rather than the hardcore Portland/Seattle type protestors.
