Distant Earthquake Possibly Felt in Santa Barbara Wednesday Morning

An earthquake located in San Luis Obispo County may have been felt by some edhat readers Wednesday morning.

Below are reports from edhat readers stating windows and doors rattled around 9:30 a.m. The U.S. Geological Survey reports a 3.7 magnitude earthquake near Simmler and Lost Hills, bordering on San Luis Obispo and Kern counties.

The quake reportedly struck at 10:05 a.m., which is approximately 150 miles away from Santa Barbara. 

Since edhat reader reports state 9:30 a.m., it’s possible this could be unrelated. 

There are no reports of launches from Vandenberg Air Force Base during this time.

  • Did anyone else experience windows and doors shaking about 9:30 AM? We’re in the Braemar area east of Hope Ranch.

  • Was that an earthquake around 9:30 am? Windows started shaking but there wasn’t any wind. Anyone else feel that?
