Dignity Health Central Coast Hospitals Provide Scholarships to Local Teen Volunteers

The Volunteer Service Departments at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital (AGCH) and Marian Regional Medical Center (MRMC) are pleased to announce the eleven recent scholarships awarded to teen hospital volunteers, many of whom want to pursue a career in the health care field.

The Volunteer Service Scholarship Program was initiated to offer financial support to student members of the Volunteen Program in their higher education endeavors. Three scholarship categories exist for this purpose: The Volunteer Services Scholarship, The Marie Murray Memorial Scholarship, and The Sister Regine Donner Scholarship.

“Volunteering allows me to give back to my community and produce a positive impact on people, including children as they grow up in the community,” says Marian Regional Medical Center scholarship recipient Jennifer Basulto. “The combination of my interest in medicine and my joy of helping others influenced my career goal of becoming a physician assistant. I know that I will get satisfaction from helping others get better. I strive to do better, to help others, and impact them in a positive, life-changing way.”

The scholarships categories are as follows:

The Volunteer Services Department Scholarship awards three amounts to three Volunteens who plan to pursue careers in healthcare. The amounts are as follows: $1,200, $1,500, and $2,500. 

The Marie Murray Memorial Scholarship applicants are not required to pursue a career in healthcare. The Marie Murray Scholarship is a $2,500 award given in memory of the more than 29,000 hours Marie Murray volunteered serving patients, guests and staff. Her service spanned over more than 20 years. This award is given recognition of a Volunteen who demonstrates the same legacy of service; demonstrating the Core Values of Dignity, Collaboration, Stewardship and Excellence.

The Sister Regine Donner Scholarship applicants are required to pursue a career in education. The Sr. Regine Donner Scholarship is a $2,000 award given in memory of Sr. Regine who pioneered the Volunteen Program which was started more than 20 years ago. This award is a tribute to an incredibly dedicated woman, local community service leader and altruist. This scholarship will recognize a Volunteen who displays acts of kindness, goodwill, compassion and generosity.

Recipients of the above scholarships are as follows for MRMC:

Marie Murray Scholarship – Awarding $2500.00 to Kayla Sison Pablo with more than 700 hours of volunteer service. She will be attending UCSD majoring in Psychology with Specialization in Social Psychology.  She would like to become a Clinical psychologist. 

Sister Regine Donner Scholarship – Awarded $2000.00 to Daniela Roman-Albarran with more than 675 hours of Volunteer Service. She will be attending UCSB majoring in Pre-Financial Mathematics and Statistics and would like to become a programmer. 

Marian Volunteer Service’s Scholarship – Awarded to Jan-Mariz Daguio $2500.00, serving for more than 500 hours of volunteer service.  She will be attending UCSD majoring in General Biology. She attended Pioneer Valley High School. She aspires to be an epidemiologist, studying how diseases impact populations on a number of factors.

Marian Volunteer Service’s Scholarship in the amount of $1500.00 was awarded to Jennifer Basulto with more than 230 hours of volunteer service. She will be attending UCSB majoring in Pre-Biology and wants to become a registered nurse, gain experience, go back to school and become a physician’s assistant/nurse practitioner.   

Marian Volunteer Service’s Scholarship – Awarded in the amount of $1200.00 to Adrianne Lambert with more than 645 hours of Volunteer Service.  She will be attending UCSD majoring in Human Biology.  She wants to go to Medical School and become a certified surgeon specializing in plastics, cardiology, trauma or pediatrics. 

Recipients of scholarships are as follows for AGCH:

Reagan Beaudoin received the $1500 Arroyo Grande Hospital Volunteer Scholarship. She volunteered at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital for over 780 hours. She will be studying at Northern Arizona University in preparation for a major in nursing.

Madison Wong was awarded the $1000 Arroyo Grande Hospital Volunteer Scholarship. She supported staff at Arroyo Grande Rehabilitation Center, donating close to 300 hours of service. She will be attending the School of Nursing at UCLA.

Gesenia Echeverria received a $1000 Arroyo Grande Hospital Volunteer Scholarship. Gesenia offered outstanding patient, staff and visitor support. Her 300 hours of service were spent at the lobby desk, as well as, distributing special sundries to patients. She plans to attend the College of Letters and Science with Pre-Human Biology as her major. Her volunteer service at AG Hospital inspired her interest in the healthcare field.

Shareef Tubeileh received the $500 Arroyo Grande Hospital Volunteer Scholarship. His 240 hours of service to AG Hospital helped him solidify his decision to study medicine. He will be attending UCLA, with as a Biochemistry.

Devansh Sapovadia was awarded the $500 Arroyo Grande Hospital Volunteer Scholarship for his service and outstanding personal achievements. He worked close to 200 hours as a volunteer at AGCH. He was an energetic and dedicated volunteer whose exemplary ability to overcome obstacles is inspiring. Devansh will be continuing his education at USC.

Nadia Lopez earned the $500 Arroyo Grande Hospital Volunteer Scholarship. She devoted 156 hours of dedicated service to AG Acute Rehab Center. She will be attending Cuesta College as a Film Studies major.
