Sheriff’s detectives are currently looking into a shooting involving a young girl in the Santa Maria area.

The incident took place on Monday, November 20, 2023, around 9:50 p.m. deputies were alerted by hospital staff that they were treating a 14-year-old juvenile who had sustained a gunshot wound from a recent shooting in the unincorporated area between Santa Maria and Guadalupe.

It seems the victim may not know the person or persons responsible for the shooting.

Detectives are actively investigating the case and are seeking the public’s help to gather more information.

While the available details for public release are limited at this stage of the investigation, detectives are sharing this information with the public to ensure safety and encourage potential witnesses to come forward. They are specifically interested in hearing from anyone who witnessed an altercation near vehicles along the road between Santa Maria and Guadalupe on the night of the incident.
