On Thursday, January 9, 2020, at 8:18 p.m. suspects smashed the window of a vehicle in the parking lot of 3208 Via Real, in the unincorporated area of Carpinteria and stole items from the vehicle. Video surveillance showed the suspects arrive at the location in a white-colored Toyota Prius with black rims/wheels. A wallet, briefcase, and a rose gold-colored iPhone 6 Plus were stolen from the vehicle.

The victim’s credit cards were later used between 9:00-9:30 p.m. the same night at both Target stores in Ventura. The suspects arrived at Target in the same vehicle used during the burglary. Surveillance from Target shows the unidentified suspects.  Please see the attached photos.

The Sheriff’s Office is requesting anyone that has information about this crime, or that can help identify the suspects, email Deputy Ellis at [email protected]. You can also contact the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s anonymous tip line at 805-681-4171 or visit our website.

Lock your doors and do not leave valuable items in sight. Lock your valuables in the trunk, or better yet, take them with you if you can. It's really surprising to me that more people don't adhere to this common sense practice.

Thank you! I am always so surprised to read posts from individuals lamenting that their purse/wallet/CAR KEYS (my favorite) were stolen from their vehicles. Come on, guys. Who leaves this stuff in their car? Also, 3208 Via Real is the Jehovah's Witness church in Carp.

I completely agree, Giftedinsb. Most vehicle thefts are the ones where the doors were unlocked and/or valuables were in plain sight with a blinking neon sign lit saying, "Steal Me". I'm also amazed at how many people leave their wallets in the car! S T U P I D !

From the Sheriff: "It's taking longer to release photos because we never anticipated the difficulty it would be to wake up our retired staff. Turns out our our retired employees are really deep sleepers." This interview was done on the golf course.

I was reading a book of Dashiel Hammet short stories. Subsequent to a committed crime, the victim would go the police station, the police artist would make a sketch, the sketch would be sent to the Chronicle building and published in the next edition- there were four or five editions of the newspaper everyday- one star, the morning paper, two star, late morning, etc. Now we are a hundred years ahead of that time- we are in the age of communication, and yet it takes weeks to publicize a photo of the perpetrators?

Not to fear, the SBSO is on the case with a 20-day response time and pics of a computer screen taken on a broken Polaroid. Good work as always Sheriff Brown. I'll always remember when I was downtown and the entire county got an active shooter lockdown alert. Fun times.

Sheriff Brown is only concerned with getting more helicopters and more swag for his north county jail facility he bamboozled the County into building AFTER the voters said, "NO!" What a fine guy! Next election the taxpayers WILL remember.

Typical - 20 DAYS AGO and now they ask for our help? Gads! This is so typical SBSO & SBPD it's not even funny. Come on rookies! Suck it up and ask for help. These folks are long gone. Heck, they could be in China by now.

By not wanting to ask for help from the public and other POLICE agencies, the SB County Sheriffs Dept dropped the ball on the Golden State Killer Case... read the book. Heads should have rolled, but there was ZERO accountability.

SBSO, get your IT department to give a 30-minute training on using the "print screen" button to copy the screen, then paste in email or save to usb. These photos of computer screens are terrible........

It's the SBSO, what do you expect - 2020 knowledge & technology? All that money went to buying more choppers and paying the insane OT due to not wanting to hire more staff. We can't miss out on the OT Graveytrain, can we?
