Deltopia Weekend: Public Safety Reminders, New Ordinances, and Enforcement Plan

Restrictions in Place Friday, April 3 Through Sunday, April 5

As the unsanctioned festival weekend known as Deltopia approaches, Santa Barbara County agencies are reminding the public of important safety information. The event draws large crowds to Isla Vista each year, impacting residents and first responders. The event is not permitted, and a coordinated, countywide public safety plan will be in place.

Zero-Tolerance Enforcement

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office will maintain a strong presence in Isla Vista and enforce all laws throughout the weekend. Outside of permitted events, zero-tolerance enforcement will apply to noise violations, alcohol offenses, and unsafe or destructive behavior. Citations and arrests will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.

New for 2026: 72-Hour Amplified Music Ban

A County ordinance now prohibits amplified music audible beyond a property line for 72 hours, from 12:00 a.m. Friday, April 3 through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, April 5. Violations may result in citations and seizure of equipment. The restriction applies throughout Isla Vista and nearby areas, with exceptions only for permitted events.

Expanded Authority to Shut Down Parties

Updated public nuisance laws allow law enforcement to immediately shut down gatherings linked to dangerous or illegal activity, including overcrowding, rooftop parties, or obstructing roadways. Violations may result in misdemeanor charges.

Safety and Emergency Response

Due to the anticipated surge in medical calls, the County EMS Agency will implement a triaged medical response, allowing hospitals and first responders to manage increased demand.
Attendees are urged to:

• Stay off rooftops, bluffs, and overcrowded decks
• Make way for emergency vehicles
• Call 911 immediately in the event of an overdose—Good Samaritan protections apply

DUI Enforcement and Parking Restrictions

A DUI checkpoint will be conducted in the City of Goleta on Saturday, April 4. Additional traffic enforcement and temporary parking restrictions will be in place. Drivers are urged to plan ahead and never drive impaired.

Beach Closure

Isla Vista beaches will be closed from 8:00 a.m. Friday, April 3 through 8:00 a.m. Monday, April 6 to protect public health, safety, and the environment.

Community Event Alternative

Residents may attend Soltopia, a sanctioned community festival hosted by Isla Vista Community Services Department on April 4 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., offering a safer environment focused on music, art, and community.

The County emphasizes that Deltopia has historically resulted in preventable injuries, overdoses, and significant impacts on emergency services. The public is urged to make safe, responsible choices.
