Santa Barbara County Firefighters were on the scene of a brush fire in the Cuyama Valley early Sunday evening.
At 5:12 p.m. crews responded to the 1500 block of Wasioja Road and discovered grass and brush engulfed in flames estimated to be 25-30 acres with the potential to reach 200 acres.
Named the “Wasioja Fire,” county crews enlisted nearby resources from the Lake Fire to assist with the attack. Cal Fire and US Forest Service initiated air resources with four air tankers and two helicopters.
The forward progress was stopped at 7:43 p.m. Sunday and all air resources were released back into service.
Santa Barbara County firefighters remained on the scene throughout the night to extinguish hot spots, mop up, and improve containment lines to 80% early Monday morning.
At of 11:00 a.m. Monday, the fire was 100% contained at an estimated 50 acres.
There were no injuries or damaged structures. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
