Santa Barbara County firefighters quickly knocked down a roadside fire north of Refugio State Beach late Wednesday morning.
At 11:58 am, county fire crews aided by a passing Lompoc Fire Department engine responded to a brush fire off Highway 101 northbound.
A fire break made earlier by ranchers helped in containing the fire to approximately one acre, reports Public Information Officer Mike Eliason.
California Highway Patrol closed the number two lane while firefighters worked to contain the fire.
The cause is under investigation.
